Ravintolapäivä on järjestetty ties kuinka monta kertaa jo, mutta minä en ole koskaan ehtinyt mukaan. Olen joko ollut väärään aikaan väärässä paikassa, tai kuullut päivästä vasta kun on liian myöhäistä. En kyllä tälläkään kertaa ollut tajunnut päivän olevan jo käsillä, mutta kun aamulla heräsin puistosta leijuvaan ruoantuoksuun, tajusin heti mistä on kyse. Niinpä osallistuimme ihan etukäteen suunnittelematta tukemalla kotipuiston kojuja. Söimme bhutanilaista, kolumbialaista ja thaimaalaista ruokaa, sekä vähän herkkuja päälle.
Oli hauskaa saada niin monenlaista ruokaa läheltä ja kohtuuhintaan. Jos olisi suunnitellut etukäteen, olisi voinut löytää vaikka mitä ravintoloita, mutta hauskaa oli näinkin. Päivän idea on kerrassaan mahtava, ja aion osallistua myös ensi kerralla. Täällä jo vähän visioitiin sitäkin, millainen meidän oma ravintolamme voisi olla.

Have you heard about the Restaurant Day? It is a Finnish invention, and the basic idea is that on the day anyone anywhere can put up a pop-up restaurant. Outside, inside, or in their own homes, however they want to. In Finland opening a restaurant is a long and slow process with lots of bureaucracy. The Restaurant Day gives everyone an opportunity to be a restaurant owner for a day without having to deal with bureaucracy and at the same time creates a food festival for anyone to attend. Restaurant Day gets bigger every time, and today there was 1702 restaurants in 30 different countries around the world.
There has been plenty of Restaurant Days already, but I've never attended before. I've either been somewhere away, or realized what day it is when it's already too late. And I have to say this time I hadn't realized either that the day was upon us again. But then I woke up to a lovely smell of food coming from the park outside and realized what was going on. So we attended without any planning ahead and visited the booths in the park. We ate Bhutanese, Colombian and Thai food, and some sweet treats as well.
It was fun to find so many kinds of food so near and with great prices. If we had planned ahead, we could have found all kinds of new great restaurants, but this way was fun too. The idea of the day is great, and I'll be sure to attend next time as well. We also envisioned what our own restaurant could be like if we decided to open one on some Restaurant Day.
